Seeing Jesus in Psalm 149

Psalm 149 1 Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song.     Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful. 2 O Israel, rejoice in your Maker.     O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King. 3 Praise his name with dancing,     accompanied by tambourine and harp. 4 For the Lord delights in his people;     he crowns the humble with victory. 5 Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them.     Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds. 6 Let the praises of God be in their mouths,     and a sharp sword in their hands— 7 to execute vengeance on the nations     and punishment on the peoples, 8 to bind their kings with shackles     and their leaders with iron chains, 9 to execute the judgment written against them.     This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones. Praise the Lord! 3 Don’t you realize th...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 136

Psalm 136 “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!  His faithful love endures forever .” Psalms 136:1 NLT MAIN POINT: When we see the patient, just, enduringly merciful love of God in Christ Jesus the just judge and king, we will be thankful. Before I do any research into these words and what others say about the meaning here, I personally react to these words repeated over and over 26 times with these thoughts. His = Jesus, God, my Shepherd, righteous King Faithful = dependable, reliable, consistent Love = caring, giving, humble, generous, patient, forgiving, protecting, providing, guiding, disciplining relationship Endures = lasts, survives, overcomes, is unstoppable, long-suffering, tested Forever = eternal, infinite, no beginning and no end, endless, always, timelessly I’ll first compare several English translations and then look at the Dutch and French translations to see if I can gain more definite insights into this refrain. One of the notable translations, the ...

Seeing Jesus in the Psalm 123

Psalm 123 A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. 1 I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. 2 We keep looking to the LORD our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. 3 Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt. 4 We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant. Psalm 123:1-4 If you are here because you love Jesus and you want to serve Him, you've come to the right place. I’m one of those people too. But maybe you feel like you’ve reached your limit because friends, family, a partner, your colleagues are not supportive of your faith in and love for Jesus. Or you are acutely aware that in this world, society does not share your world view and they think you are nuts for believing the Bible. They are offended at your moral stance and they feel threatened that you would consider anything they approve as ...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 106

Psalm 106 Need a boost? Then this is the Psalm for you. Oh not a sugar-coated, lying boost of falsehoods but a real-life emotional rollercoaster of a relationship that shows how much of a hero God is for His people and an invitation for you to join. In fact the Psalm starts and ends with the opportunity to Praise the Lord. And not just randomly but with reasons, because God is good. Good? you may ask, and the author says Yes, of course good--look, His faithful love endures forever. And we all know forever is a really long time. You’ll need forever, though, because you have been challenged to make a list of all of God’s glorious miracles and of course, that will take you forever. So get on with it. Make your list. I have made such a list and found indeed I didn’t have enough time or paper to complete it. The glorious miracles of God are more than we can count. You can start with a couple of personal miracles. Look in the mirror and ask yourself, are you like God: Do you have joy...
