Seeing Jesus in Psalm 140

Psalm 140 (read the Psalm) MAIN POINT: Jesus had enemies and so will you, but you can trust that in the presence of God you are safe from your enemies. Jesus talked about loving your enemies ( burning coals on people’s heads ) and people being thrown into fire. ( Matthew 3:12, 25:41, Mark 9:43-49, Luke 16:23-24, Revelation 14:10,  19:20, 20:10, 20:14-15, 21:8 ) And Jesus definitely had enemies. There were people trying to kill Jesus, and Satan wasn’t leaving any space for his rampage of kill, steal and destroy campaign to pass Jesus by. David has his share of enemies too. It should be no surprise to you that both Jesus and David were people often on the run, aware of the danger that lurked in every location and word of their enemies' presence. Jesus uses the words of verse 3 to describe the people whom everyone assumed should be closest to God.  Have you felt like evil people and evil forces are gunning for your soul? David understood that feeling and even more, Jesus...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 133

Psalm 133 A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. A psalm of David. 1 How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! 2 For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. 3 Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting. I’ve long thought that one of the most attractive things about following Jesus is the fruit of the Spirit. Doesn’t everyone want a life where love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control are in abundance?  What kind of a world would it be if each individual had these attributes welling up inside? Wouldn't there be a world where harmony persisted and conflicts were nonexistant between those who possessed such luxurious character? David had a vision from God of such a world. And when ever...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 111

Psalm 111 Psalms 110 through 117 are relatively short in comparison with the chapters that came before and will come after. So I will include the text of the Psalm in my lesson so we all can make sure to read it and refer to it while considering if we can see Jesus in the Psalm. As always the Psalm reference in the PDF and blog are linked to YouVersion Bible’s web page, and often I link to the comparison page in YouVersion, so you can compare different versions of the Bibles if you are logged in. I believe this is a foundational method to good Bible study. Main Point: Jesus is our redeemer and you can’t even begin to imagine what He will do for you. 'Praise the Lord ! I will thank the Lord with all my heart as I meet with his godly people.  How amazing are the deeds of the Lord ! All who delight in him should ponder them.  Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails.  He causes us to remember his wonderful works. How gracious and...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 84

Psalm 84 This Psalm brought so much joy to my heart this morning and resonated with the wonderful message we heard in our local gathering of God's family this Sunday. And before I break it all down, let me challenge you to go back and read the Psalm and consider that God lives in His people: the church is the dwelling place of our God. In fact I am so filled with a similar heart of thanksgiving today that I read here in Korah’s descendants’ Psalm that I want to start with my own praise session: MAIN POINT: Get close to God by getting close to where He is and where He works, and you will find immense joy. I love what I see God doing in my heart. I love what I see God doing in Lyssa’s heart; she is so wonderful to others and to me. Praise You, God for the work you are doing in and through her. I love my church and the messages I have heard over the past months there. I love the fellowship, the friendships, the loving caring attitudes, the worship and praise, the connect groups, the...
