Seeing Jesus in Psalm 11

But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven.

Psalm 11:4 NLT

 Psalm 11

The following phrases are David’s theology. David believes these things to be true about God.

In David’s ever present conflict with wicked people, David contrasts the common response to evil in the world with His knowledge of God. What David knows to be true about God corrects the despair and defeatism of societies’ common response to wrongdoers and injustice.

MAIN POINT:

God is a welcoming king who rules all people with righteousness.

  1. David contrasts the two voices in his head.

    1. In the Lord I take refuge v.1

    2. You say to my soul v.1

      1. The wicked make ready v.2 -- Evil people attack good people

      2. The foundations are destroyed v.3 -- Society is destroyed by the actions of evil people.

      3. What can the righteous do? v.3 --good people can’t do anything about it. They are helpless and can just try to run away. (“Flee as a bird to your mountain” v.1)

  2. David’s knowledge of God corrects his helplessness, fear and defeatism.

    1. The Lord is in His holy temple v.4 --the wicked can not destroy the foundations of God’s Holy temple

    2. The Lord’s throne is in heaven v.4 --God’s vantage point is above all things and is an even higher refuge than the mountains.

    3. His (the Lord) eyes behold v.4 -- Nothing escapes God’s notice.

    4. His (the Lord) eyelids test the sons of men v.4-- and just with His look God determines the just outcome of all things men have done.

    5. The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked v.5-- God will not miss one action and will not fail to determine every motive and action so He will respond with justice.

    6. His (the Lord) soul hates (the one who loves violence) v.5)-- God is moved by injustice, He is passionate about justice.

    7. He (the Lord) will rain snares (Fire and brimstone and burning wind)  (Upon the wicked) v.6-- God’s justice is sure, overwhelming and complete.

    8. For the Lord is righteous, v.7-- God will not get this justice thing wrong, for He is always right.

    9. He (the Lord) loves righteousness v.7-- God loves everything about getting it right, being right, doing right, setting things right.

    10. The upright will behold His (the Lord’s) face. v.7-- God welcomes us into His presence when we do what is right and shelter from evil by Him.

Conclusion:

You might be tempted to listen to the advice of the world and to give in to the threats of the wicked. But you can stand your ground and not fear because God is ruling from heaven in righteousness, He loves when people do what is right and he welcomes them to be in His presence. But watch out: if you love evil and plan to do wickedness, God sees it. He knows what you are doing and His justice is sure and complete. You will not get away with anything that is not right according to Him. He is the King and the judge and He determines what is right and wrong.

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 2

<-- Psalm 1   Psalm 3 --> Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed. Psalm 2:12 NLT Psalm 2   (Handwritten Psalms 2) Main Point: Jesus is the heavenly anointed King over all the earth who provides refuge from God’s wrath and the injustice of the raging nations.   God has installed a King (who is Jesus) who rules with heaven’s authority. v. 6  God’s King is in relationship with God. vv. 6 -7   God installs His King on His Holy place (mountain)  God calls His King, His Son.  God gives everything to His King and offers all He could ask for.  God gives His King heavenly authority over all the other rulers of the earth.  God’s King is a refuge against injustice and righteous judgement.  God recognises the rebellion of the earthly kings as a personal assault and will meet it with wrath. v.1,2,3  God gives the nations and rulers fair warning of his King’s authority. v.4,3, 9-12  God’s King i...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 32

I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT   Psalm 32 Have you ever heard the voice of God? People want God to speak to them, until He does. As you probably know, Lyssa and I help Christians in Belgium by serving in the Christian bookstore/coffee shop, Het Goede Boek in Leuven. Sometimes people want a red letter edition of the Bible. Other times we are asked for a Dutch language version of the King James Bible. I think both requests come from the same desire. People want to really know what God says. Today in reading and longhand copying the Bible from Psalm 32, I too got a bit excited and I thought I knew what to share about God from Psalm 32 because of a particular translation choice. When I checked my observation with several other translations in three languages, I found  a big difference.  v.8 “Le Seigneur dit : Je t'enseignerai” (NFC), “De Heer zegt: "Ik leer je” (BB), “The Lord says, “I will guide you...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 1

Psalm 2 --> But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:2 NLT Psalm 1 ( Hand Written Text of Psalm 1 )  Main Point:  The law of the Lord constantly produces fruit because it is the priority and passion of the godly.   God’s law is the priority for the godly. v.1   God’s law is the passion of the godly. v.2   God’s law is fruitful in the godly. v.3   We can see the law of the Lord as pointing to the rule and reign of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the ultimate law giver of God and He rules through His Word. And His Word is from God the Father. Jesus tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing and that He is the fruit-bearing vine. The life-giving, fruit-bearing Word of God is the ultimate Law of the Lord. And Jesus told us the summation of that whole law is love for God.  So of course if we love God we will want to be with Him rather than with others; we will raise His opinions, plans and prioriti...
