Seeing Jesus in Psalm 15

Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?

Psalm 15:1 NLT

 Psalm 15

Who gets to hang out with God? That’s a way to look at theology you might not have considered. What kinds of friends does God have? Is God picky about the kinds of friends He has over to His place? It turns out He is rather selective with His closest mates. Surely God is better than His friends, so I am confident that God is like this and definitely no less this sort of person.

Main Point:

Godliness is to have character like God; we learn what God is like from the people living with Him.

  1. Blameless, Accusations against God and his friends can’t stick. They can’t be blamed.

  2. Right-doers, God and his friends take the initiative to do the right thing.

  3. Truth-Speakers, God and his friends speak the truth.

  4. Sincere hearted, God and his friends have hearts without deceit.

  5. Anti-gossipers, God and his friends don’t trash talk others.

  6. Harmless, God and his friends are safe in deeds towards neighbours.

  7. Non-evil speakers, God and his friends don’t talk bad about friends.

  8. Flagrant-sinner-phobes, God and his friends don’t want to be around rebels.

  9. Faithful-follower-philes, God and his friends love to be around the faithful.

  10. Faithful, God and his friends are faithful and true to their word no matter what.

  11. Generous, God and his friends give with no strings attached.

  12. Bribeless, God and his friends aren’t motivated by money and they care about justice.

  13. Steady, God and his friends are reliable and lasting.

Conclusion:

Getting close to God is a great goal. Everyone would want a friend of God on their side if they were in a pinch. The character of God and his friends is attractive. Reading Psalm 15 reminded me of a similar list which ends with the confident declaration that “against such things there is no law.” Do you see the similarities between the persons described above living close to God and the product /fruit of God’s Spirit? God is worth getting to know, that’s why Jesus came.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

You might be thinking, that will never be me, I won't be allowed to get near to God, I’m too much of a sinner. Jesus can make you like Him. Listen to what Paul wrote about it.

"6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation."

Romans 5:6-11

Get close to God. He has made a way in Jesus, and you too will be like the most attractive person you’ll ever meet, Jesus.

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 2

<-- Psalm 1   Psalm 3 --> Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed. Psalm 2:12 NLT Psalm 2   (Handwritten Psalms 2) Main Point: Jesus is the heavenly anointed King over all the earth who provides refuge from God’s wrath and the injustice of the raging nations.   God has installed a King (who is Jesus) who rules with heaven’s authority. v. 6  God’s King is in relationship with God. vv. 6 -7   God installs His King on His Holy place (mountain)  God calls His King, His Son.  God gives everything to His King and offers all He could ask for.  God gives His King heavenly authority over all the other rulers of the earth.  God’s King is a refuge against injustice and righteous judgement.  God recognises the rebellion of the earthly kings as a personal assault and will meet it with wrath. v.1,2,3  God gives the nations and rulers fair warning of his King’s authority. v.4,3, 9-12  God’s King i...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 32

I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT   Psalm 32 Have you ever heard the voice of God? People want God to speak to them, until He does. As you probably know, Lyssa and I help Christians in Belgium by serving in the Christian bookstore/coffee shop, Het Goede Boek in Leuven. Sometimes people want a red letter edition of the Bible. Other times we are asked for a Dutch language version of the King James Bible. I think both requests come from the same desire. People want to really know what God says. Today in reading and longhand copying the Bible from Psalm 32, I too got a bit excited and I thought I knew what to share about God from Psalm 32 because of a particular translation choice. When I checked my observation with several other translations in three languages, I found  a big difference.  v.8 “Le Seigneur dit : Je t'enseignerai” (NFC), “De Heer zegt: "Ik leer je” (BB), “The Lord says, “I will guide you...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 1

Psalm 2 --> But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:2 NLT Psalm 1 ( Hand Written Text of Psalm 1 )  Main Point:  The law of the Lord constantly produces fruit because it is the priority and passion of the godly.   God’s law is the priority for the godly. v.1   God’s law is the passion of the godly. v.2   God’s law is fruitful in the godly. v.3   We can see the law of the Lord as pointing to the rule and reign of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the ultimate law giver of God and He rules through His Word. And His Word is from God the Father. Jesus tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing and that He is the fruit-bearing vine. The life-giving, fruit-bearing Word of God is the ultimate Law of the Lord. And Jesus told us the summation of that whole law is love for God.  So of course if we love God we will want to be with Him rather than with others; we will raise His opinions, plans and prioriti...
