This morning after copying Psalm 29 out of the New Living Translation I took the time to read the chapter from each of the following bible versions and to read the accompanying notes or alternative texts. I recommend you consider doing the same sometimes when studying a particular passage.

MAIN POINT: The mere voice of the Lord is awesome with indescribable power that gives His children strength and peace.
God’s voice is worthy of honour
All powers, including angels, are invited to honour God. Even just the name of God is awesome and worthy of honour.
God’s voice is a great destroyer
Look at the verbs and descriptions of destruction: echos, thunders, powerful, majestic, splits, shatters, strikes, makes to quake, shakes, twists, strips.
God’s voice always produces an awesome response.
v.6 skipping calves, leaping wild oxen (unicorns), v.9 in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
God’s voice is greater than our sin.
v.10 “The Lord sat as King at the flood;”
(notes from the The Passion Translation) “29:10 The Hebrew word for "flood" is found thirteen times in the Bible and is always used in connection to man's rebellion and turning away from God. Thirteen is the biblical number signifying apostasy. Sitting as King, he rules even over the dark flood of evil to make it end.”
God’s voice gives us strength and peace.
I suppose you have learned how I think in the past 28 chapters, looking for Jesus and thinking about Jesus as I read through the Psalms with you. I can’t help but hear the Word of God is the voice of God.
When God speaks, He speaks through His son.
Hebrews 1:2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.
Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
Matthew 17:5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.
Conclusion: The awesome voice of God is His son Jesus who speaks so we can have joy.
(peace and strength)
Psalm 29:11 The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.
