In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8 ESV
David knows God. There is a description of God and what we can expect from God in Psalm 4.
If you are looking to understand who God is and how you can build your relationship with him, then this Psalm gives you many points to build on.
MAIN POINT: You can approach God in prayer with confidence because God takes the initiative to set you apart.
Godly people talk to God. v. 1 God is listening.
Godly people are rescued by God. v. 1 God is rescuing.
Godly people expect God to respond. v.1 God is responding.
Godly people know the way of the ungodly is worthless. v. 2 God is revealing.
Godly people declare to others that God is trustworthy. v. 3 God is trustworthy.
Godly people warn others about God’s holiness. v. 4 God is holy.
Godly people meditate on God. v. 4 God is wonderful.
Godly people obey God. v. 5 God is worthy.
Godly people have faith. v. 6 God is good.
Godly people are glad with God. v. 7 God is giving.
Godly people can rest. v. 8 God is caring.
Jesus claims to do many of these things listed in the Psalm.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.¨ Matthew 11:28
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10
“Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.“ John 14:9
“I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish” John 10:28
“the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” Mark 2:10
“I am the good shepherd” John 10:11
“I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved,” John 10:9
“I who speak to you am He (Messiah).” John 4:26
“For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,” John 5:22
“Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” John 8:58
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:7-8 ESV

Great commentary. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteFor me, verse 3 really stands out because it speaks to and alludes to righteousness through grace. Gods selecting us through Jesus. I personally feel like verse 3 should have been the first verse but the Holy Spirit knows why it’s the 3rd. No coincidence I am sure. The same verse reminds me of God’s covenant with Abraham and his seed.
