Seeing Jesus in Psalm 33

For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does.

Psalm 33:4 NLT

 Psalm 33

Yesterday 8 people came to the bookstore to be taught by a locally well-known evangelist. The evangelist said we don’t need to prove anything about God. The Bible says people already know the truth that God exists and that He is good. We don’t need to argue about creation or God’s power and sovereignty; these things are already self-evident.

Psalm 33 responds to the facts we already know and confirms we know these things because God made us.

Main Point: Psalm 33v.4 The word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does.

I invite you to reread Psalm 33 and insert Jesus where it speaks of the Lord or the Word of the Lord or really any truth about God. (For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. John 12:45 [Look these verses up and be amazed: Colossians 1:15, John 14:9-10, 2 Corinthians 4:6, Hebrews 1:3])

Let’s reread verse 4 with Jesus in mind. Psalm 33:4 (WJP*) Jesus is the truth so Jesus' words are absolutely reliable, and Jesus is always going to do what's right.

Or try verse 5, Jesus loves everything to do with justice and goodness so Jesus fills the earth with His love.

Think about that. God says the whole earth is full of Jesus' love. And not only that God made it all. And He made it all just by speaking. I find great comfort in the deep assurance that Jesus breathed a word  and all the stars were born. Talk about a big bang. What a breath that must have been.

So it is only natural that the whole world would stand in awe of Jesus and have a reverent holy fear of God. He merely breathes and whole universes come into existence. Think of everything you know about Jesus and now remind yourself that that man, walking about with the disciples, that man healing the blind, walking on water and praying in the garden or dying on the cross is the one who (v.9) spoke and the world began. The world appeared at the command of Jesus.

So with that obvious fact, that Jesus made everything and that He is in control, established and out there, let's draw three conclusions from Psalm 33.

Jesus has all political, national, military, world powers under His control so you don’t need to worry about the outcome of these world events. Jesus is in control. Psalm 33:10-11

We should be concerned with loving, just care of all things because they are the property of Jesus, and He has given us responsibility to be loving caretakers of all things and all people. So we are not to disrespect or mistreat anything or anyone. But we do not have to fret over the evil plans of others as if God will fail to do the right and loving thing. We need to listen to Jesus, “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)

Jesus said this and we can trust His word completely.

Jesus knows everything about every human heart, so you can trust Him more than any human scheme, power or invention.  Psalm 33:13-15

For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light. Mark 4:22

(Luke 8:17,Luke 12:2, Hebrews 4:12)

We often think that evil people are going to get away with things or that we have to bring into the light the hidden agendas and motives of our enemies and inform people of all the secret schemes of leaders, neighbours, political movements or particular ideologies. It does not rest on our shoulders. Jesus has got it in hand and He has not missed one point. He is not in the least deceived or powerless against the most elaborate of plots. We cannot be saved by an action, a plan or a movement of man apart from the God-man Christ Jesus. God knows and He is on the job.

Jesus uses all His power to take care of those who trust in Him; He will not let you down. Psalm 33:18-22

If the knowledge of Jesus' power and authority are not clear enough for you, then the Psalmist leads us to the action plan and conclusions for the one who fears and trusts Jesus Word of God, all powerful creator and all knowing king.

Jesus watches over you if you fear him. (Don’t get hung up on the word fear. It's okay and good.) v.18

Even death can’t harm you, so don’t worry if you are facing death. v.19

You can hope in God; He protects you. v.20

You can even be happy and rejoice because you are confident of God’s authority. v.21

Jesus is a one size fits all, one stop shop for all you need. v.22

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 2

<-- Psalm 1   Psalm 3 --> Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed. Psalm 2:12 NLT Psalm 2   (Handwritten Psalms 2) Main Point: Jesus is the heavenly anointed King over all the earth who provides refuge from God’s wrath and the injustice of the raging nations.   God has installed a King (who is Jesus) who rules with heaven’s authority. v. 6  God’s King is in relationship with God. vv. 6 -7   God installs His King on His Holy place (mountain)  God calls His King, His Son.  God gives everything to His King and offers all He could ask for.  God gives His King heavenly authority over all the other rulers of the earth.  God’s King is a refuge against injustice and righteous judgement.  God recognises the rebellion of the earthly kings as a personal assault and will meet it with wrath. v.1,2,3  God gives the nations and rulers fair warning of his King’s authority. v.4,3, 9-12  God’s King i...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 32

I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT   Psalm 32 Have you ever heard the voice of God? People want God to speak to them, until He does. As you probably know, Lyssa and I help Christians in Belgium by serving in the Christian bookstore/coffee shop, Het Goede Boek in Leuven. Sometimes people want a red letter edition of the Bible. Other times we are asked for a Dutch language version of the King James Bible. I think both requests come from the same desire. People want to really know what God says. Today in reading and longhand copying the Bible from Psalm 32, I too got a bit excited and I thought I knew what to share about God from Psalm 32 because of a particular translation choice. When I checked my observation with several other translations in three languages, I found  a big difference.  v.8 “Le Seigneur dit : Je t'enseignerai” (NFC), “De Heer zegt: "Ik leer je” (BB), “The Lord says, “I will guide you...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 1

Psalm 2 --> But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:2 NLT Psalm 1 ( Hand Written Text of Psalm 1 )  Main Point:  The law of the Lord constantly produces fruit because it is the priority and passion of the godly.   God’s law is the priority for the godly. v.1   God’s law is the passion of the godly. v.2   God’s law is fruitful in the godly. v.3   We can see the law of the Lord as pointing to the rule and reign of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the ultimate law giver of God and He rules through His Word. And His Word is from God the Father. Jesus tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing and that He is the fruit-bearing vine. The life-giving, fruit-bearing Word of God is the ultimate Law of the Lord. And Jesus told us the summation of that whole law is love for God.  So of course if we love God we will want to be with Him rather than with others; we will raise His opinions, plans and prioriti...
