Seeing Jesus in Psalm 104

 Psalm 104

I join with the writer of this Psalm who begins and ends the Psalm with an exclamation of total praise.

MAIN POINT: Use your breath to Praise the Creator King Jesus who gives you His breath.

Let all that I am praise the LORD. O LORD my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty.”

Psalms 104:1 NLT

“Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. Let all that I am praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!”

Psalms 104:35 NLT

And this exuberant, complete surrender to praise flows from the knowledge that the King is the creator and sustainer of all things. Look at the description of God in verse 1 as being robed with honor and majesty. So the King is the creator who has planned every detail of nature and society, and life emanates from Him.

“But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth.”

 Psalms 104:29-30 (NLT)

If there is one message that God wants you to clearly understand, it is that He created everything.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 1:1 NLT

Both Abraham and Melchizedek affirm they know, serve and recognise God as creator of heaven and earth.

Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. ... 22 Abram replied to the king of Sodom, "I solemnly swear to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,”

Genesis 14:19, 22 NLT

Please enjoy scrolling through this list of verses below that tell us about the creator of all things.

If you take the time to scroll to the end of this document and read the verses which tell us clearly that God is the creator and then go on to reveal that the God and creator is Jesus. You should be responding like the person who wrote this Psalm. I must praise God with everything I have in me.

I think the writer is overwhelmed with the immensity of this revelation of truth about God, but I think also there is a healthy aspect of fear, or the true meaning of awe.

“But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth.”

 Psalms 104:29-30 (NLT)

I know this is the second time I’ve quoted these verses but I want you to notice two things: the breath of life, described in Genesis, is affirmed here, and whether it is poetic or literal it is still the fact you breathe because of God. You have life from His breath and you die if He takes it away. So you better use the breath He gives to praise Him.

Conclusion: (Don’t even try to understand this without having read Psalm 104 and then you better also scroll through the verses below before you conclude.)

The inner workings of God’s creation and the interdependence on far and hidden sources of water and food all point us to the fact that we are alive and breathing because we have borrowed breath from the one who made and rules us. So we better use our breath to praise Jesus the King.

Handwritten Psalm 104
Handwritten Psalm 104

[Gen 1:1, 21, 27 NLT] 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ... 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird--each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. ... 27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

[Gen 2:1-3 NLT] 1 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. 2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.

[Gen 14:19, 22 NLT] 19 Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. ... 22 Abram replied to the king of Sodom, "I solemnly swear to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,

[Deu 32:6 NLT] 6 Is this the way you repay the LORD, you foolish and senseless people? Isn't he your Father who created you? Has he not made you and established you?

[2Ki 19:15 NLT] 15 And Hezekiah prayed this prayer before the LORD: "O LORD, God of Israel, you are enthroned between the mighty cherubim! You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth.

[Job 4:17 NLT] 17 'Can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone be pure before the Creator?'

[Job 26:10 NLT] 10 He created the horizon when he separated the waters; he set the boundary between day and night.

[Job 36:3 NLT] 3 I will present profound arguments for the righteousness of my Creator.

[Psa 89:12 NLT] 12 You created north and south. Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise your name.

[Psa 103:22 NLT] 22 Praise the LORD, everything he has created, everything in all his kingdom. Let all that I am praise the LORD.

[Psa 104:24, 30 NLT] 24 O LORD, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures. ... 30 When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth.

[Psa 119:73, 90 NLT] 73 [Yodh] You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands. ... 90 Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.

[Psa 145:9 NLT] 9 The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.

[Pro 3:19 NLT] 19 By wisdom the LORD founded the earth; by understanding he created the heavens.

[Pro 8:22 NLT] 22 "The LORD formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else.

[Pro 30:4 NLT] 4 Who but God goes up to heaven and comes back down? Who holds the wind in his fists? Who wraps up the oceans in his cloak? Who has created the whole wide world? What is his name--and his son's name? Tell me if you know!

[Ecc 7:29 NLT] 29 But I did find this: God created people to be virtuous, but they have each turned to follow their own downward path."

[Ecc 12:1, 6 NLT] 1 Don't let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, "Life is not pleasant anymore." ... 6 Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don't wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well.

[Isa 17:7 NLT] 7 Then at last the people will look to their Creator and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.

[Isa 37:16 NLT] 16 "O LORD of Heaven's Armies, God of Israel, you are enthroned between the mighty cherubim! You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth.

[Isa 40:26, 28 NLT] 26 Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. ... 28 Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

[Isa 41:20 NLT] 20 I am doing this so all who see this miracle will understand what it means--that it is the LORD who has done this, the Holy One of Israel who created it.

[Isa 42:5 NLT] 5 God, the LORD, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth. And it is he who says,

[Isa 43:1, 7, 15 NLT] 1 But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. ... 7 Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.'" ... 15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel's Creator and King.

[Isa 44:24 NLT] 24 This is what the LORD says--your Redeemer and Creator: "I am the LORD, who made all things. I alone stretched out the heavens. Who was with me when I made the earth?

[Isa 45:8-9, 11-12, 18 NLT] 8 "Open up, O heavens, and pour out your righteousness. Let the earth open wide so salvation and righteousness can sprout up together. I, the LORD, created them. 9 "What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, 'Stop, you're doing it wrong!' Does the pot exclaim, 'How clumsy can you be?' ... 11 This is what the LORD says--the Holy One of Israel and your Creator: "Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands? 12 I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens. All the stars are at my command. ... 18 For the LORD is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos. "I am the LORD," he says, "and there is no other.

[Isa 51:13 NLT] 13 Yet you have forgotten the LORD, your Creator, the one who stretched out the sky like a canopy and laid the foundations of the earth. Will you remain in constant dread of human oppressors? Will you continue to fear the anger of your enemies? Where is their fury and anger now? It is gone!

[Isa 54:5 NLT] 5 For your Creator will be your husband; the LORD of Heaven's Armies is his name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth.

[Jer 10:16 NLT] 16 But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including Israel, his own special possession. The LORD of Heaven's Armies is his name!

[Jer 38:16 NLT] 16 So King Zedekiah secretly promised him, "As surely as the LORD our Creator lives, I will not kill you or hand you over to the men who want you dead."

[Jer 51:19 NLT] 19 But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including his people, his own special possession. The LORD of Heaven's Armies is his name!

[Eze 28:13 NLT] 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God. Your clothing was adorned with every precious stone--red carnelian, pale-green peridot, white moonstone, blue-green beryl, onyx, green jasper, blue lapis lazuli, turquoise, and emerald--all beautifully crafted for you and set in the finest gold. They were given to you on the day you were created.

[Amo 5:8 NLT] 8 It is the LORD who created the stars, the Pleiades and Orion. He turns darkness into morning and day into night. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The LORD is his name!

[Mal 2:10 NLT] 10 Are we not all children of the same Father? Are we not all created by the same God? Then why do we betray each other, violating the covenant of our ancestors?

[Mat 3:9 NLT] 9 Don't just say to each other, 'We're safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.' That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.

[Mat 25:34 NLT] 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.

[Mar 10:6 NLT] 6 But 'God made them male and female' from the beginning of creation.

[Mar 13:19 NLT] 19 For there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again.

[Luk 3:8 NLT] 8 Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don't just say to each other, 'We're safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.' That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.

[Luk 11:50 NLT] 50 "As a result, this generation will be held responsible for the murder of all God's prophets from the creation of the world--

[Jhn 1:3-4, 10 NLT] 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. ... 10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him.

[Act 4:24 NLT] 24 When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: "O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them--

[Act 17:26 NLT] 26 From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.

[Rom 1:20, 25 NLT] 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. ... 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

[Rom 9:20 NLT] 20 No, don't say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, "Why have you made me like this?"

[1Co 8:6 NLT] 6 But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we live for him. And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom God made everything and through whom we have been given life.

[Eph 2:10, 15 NLT] 10 For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. ... 15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups.

[Eph 3:9, 15 NLT] 9 I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. ... 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.

[Col 1:15-17 NLT] 15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see--such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

[Col 3:10 NLT] 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.

[1Ti 4:3-4 NLT] 3 They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth. 4 Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.

[Heb 1:2 NLT] 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.

[Heb 4:10 NLT] 10 For all who have entered into God's rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.

[Heb 9:11 NLT] 11 So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that greater, more perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world.

[1Pe 4:19 NLT] 19 So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.

[2Pe 3:4 NLT] 4 They will say, "What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created."

[Rev 4:11 NLT] 11 "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased."

[Rev 10:6 NLT] 6 He swore an oath in the name of the one who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and everything in them, the earth and everything in it, and the sea and everything in it. He said, "There will be no more delay.

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 2

<-- Psalm 1   Psalm 3 --> Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed. Psalm 2:12 NLT Psalm 2   (Handwritten Psalms 2) Main Point: Jesus is the heavenly anointed King over all the earth who provides refuge from God’s wrath and the injustice of the raging nations.   God has installed a King (who is Jesus) who rules with heaven’s authority. v. 6  God’s King is in relationship with God. vv. 6 -7   God installs His King on His Holy place (mountain)  God calls His King, His Son.  God gives everything to His King and offers all He could ask for.  God gives His King heavenly authority over all the other rulers of the earth.  God’s King is a refuge against injustice and righteous judgement.  God recognises the rebellion of the earthly kings as a personal assault and will meet it with wrath. v.1,2,3  God gives the nations and rulers fair warning of his King’s authority. v.4,3, 9-12  God’s King i...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 32

I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT   Psalm 32 Have you ever heard the voice of God? People want God to speak to them, until He does. As you probably know, Lyssa and I help Christians in Belgium by serving in the Christian bookstore/coffee shop, Het Goede Boek in Leuven. Sometimes people want a red letter edition of the Bible. Other times we are asked for a Dutch language version of the King James Bible. I think both requests come from the same desire. People want to really know what God says. Today in reading and longhand copying the Bible from Psalm 32, I too got a bit excited and I thought I knew what to share about God from Psalm 32 because of a particular translation choice. When I checked my observation with several other translations in three languages, I found  a big difference.  v.8 “Le Seigneur dit : Je t'enseignerai” (NFC), “De Heer zegt: "Ik leer je” (BB), “The Lord says, “I will guide you...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 1

Psalm 2 --> But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:2 NLT Psalm 1 ( Hand Written Text of Psalm 1 )  Main Point:  The law of the Lord constantly produces fruit because it is the priority and passion of the godly.   God’s law is the priority for the godly. v.1   God’s law is the passion of the godly. v.2   God’s law is fruitful in the godly. v.3   We can see the law of the Lord as pointing to the rule and reign of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the ultimate law giver of God and He rules through His Word. And His Word is from God the Father. Jesus tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing and that He is the fruit-bearing vine. The life-giving, fruit-bearing Word of God is the ultimate Law of the Lord. And Jesus told us the summation of that whole law is love for God.  So of course if we love God we will want to be with Him rather than with others; we will raise His opinions, plans and prioriti...
