Seeing Jesus in Psalm 96

 Psalm 96

“Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.”

Psalm 96:2

How can you not? That’s my question. I’m not going to try to convince you that Jesus is in this Psalm. I think personally that it is self-evident. Jesus is Lord (v.1), Jesus saves (v.2), Jesus is the creator (v.5), Jesus is the king who reigns (v.10), Jesus is judge of the earth (v.13).

I am not going to talk to you about the praiseworthiness of our God. Psalm 96 does that very well and it is beautiful. And I’m not going to discuss the coming judge that is Jesus, although that is a great motivation. In fact there are at least three motivations for what I would like to discuss and I have already mentioned two: Jesus’ praiseworthiness and that He is judge, and then add to that the closing aspect of His soon coming. In fact the imminent return of Christ our King is certainly an important motivation. But I want to ask my heart and you my friend, what are we going to do with the admonition at the end of Psalm 96 verse 2? Let me break this down for us.

He is Jesus. Our God and the access to the Father and the giver of the Holy Spirit and the creator of all things, and the judge of all the earth and the soon coming King.

Saves is what He does. You need saving. I need saving. This world is dangerous. This world and our sinful lusts and our fears are deafening, crippling, addictive task masters that are killing us. They are sapping the life out of us. We are battered and bashed and corrupted and crushed. Sin, evil, oppression, depression, unsatisfaction, dissatisfaction, frustration, and attraction are wiping us out. SAVE US Lord Jesus. Help, Help. We can’t see it. We have become blind and numb and slaves and defeated and hopeless. But You save. Jesus saves. God saves; He sent Jesus to save us.

Good news is what it is. Are you a believer? Do you really believe? Is it good news? Then say something. Could anything be better news? Good is good. In fact this time around good is great. Good is a relief. Good is nothing to be ashamed about. Good news like this isn’t something to be hiding behind with small quiet self focused and self glorifying tiny deeds. Come on folks. Get up and say the name of Jesus. HE saves. He alone. That is good news. Bread today is only bread today. Help today is fleeting. Kindness today, as lovely as it is, might just bring the glory to your little doorstep and stop there. But we need to proclaim some good news. Jesus saves. There is no other name.

Proclaim is what is going to happen if you truly believe. I know, I know I have already said something about it. But open up your mouth. Use it to do something of eternal value. Say the Name of Jesus. Talk about all HE has done. SAY it. Oh I’m so so sad to think there are prophets who are ashamed of Jesus, who encourage you to not speak His great name. Isn’t the whole of Scripture continually talking about talking about God and what He does.

Each day is how often this needs to be done. Strategy schmategy, plan …yawn. Come on, wake up. Get to work. Jesus saves. That is good news. People need saving and you know it. Tell them. Proclaim it. Why let a day go by without naming the name of Jesus who saves? What better things do you have to do? Who are you trying to impress? What is of more importance?

MAIN POINT. Say it. Jesus saves.

Conclusion:

Say it. Jesus saves.

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 2

<-- Psalm 1   Psalm 3 --> Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed. Psalm 2:12 NLT Psalm 2   (Handwritten Psalms 2) Main Point: Jesus is the heavenly anointed King over all the earth who provides refuge from God’s wrath and the injustice of the raging nations.   God has installed a King (who is Jesus) who rules with heaven’s authority. v. 6  God’s King is in relationship with God. vv. 6 -7   God installs His King on His Holy place (mountain)  God calls His King, His Son.  God gives everything to His King and offers all He could ask for.  God gives His King heavenly authority over all the other rulers of the earth.  God’s King is a refuge against injustice and righteous judgement.  God recognises the rebellion of the earthly kings as a personal assault and will meet it with wrath. v.1,2,3  God gives the nations and rulers fair warning of his King’s authority. v.4,3, 9-12  God’s King i...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 32

I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT   Psalm 32 Have you ever heard the voice of God? People want God to speak to them, until He does. As you probably know, Lyssa and I help Christians in Belgium by serving in the Christian bookstore/coffee shop, Het Goede Boek in Leuven. Sometimes people want a red letter edition of the Bible. Other times we are asked for a Dutch language version of the King James Bible. I think both requests come from the same desire. People want to really know what God says. Today in reading and longhand copying the Bible from Psalm 32, I too got a bit excited and I thought I knew what to share about God from Psalm 32 because of a particular translation choice. When I checked my observation with several other translations in three languages, I found  a big difference.  v.8 “Le Seigneur dit : Je t'enseignerai” (NFC), “De Heer zegt: "Ik leer je” (BB), “The Lord says, “I will guide you...

Seeing Jesus in Psalm 1

Psalm 2 --> But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:2 NLT Psalm 1 ( Hand Written Text of Psalm 1 )  Main Point:  The law of the Lord constantly produces fruit because it is the priority and passion of the godly.   God’s law is the priority for the godly. v.1   God’s law is the passion of the godly. v.2   God’s law is fruitful in the godly. v.3   We can see the law of the Lord as pointing to the rule and reign of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the ultimate law giver of God and He rules through His Word. And His Word is from God the Father. Jesus tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing and that He is the fruit-bearing vine. The life-giving, fruit-bearing Word of God is the ultimate Law of the Lord. And Jesus told us the summation of that whole law is love for God.  So of course if we love God we will want to be with Him rather than with others; we will raise His opinions, plans and prioriti...
