Main Point: We can celebrate like we won the lotto when we know that Jesus remembers His promise and we have put our trust in that promise.
I was at a concert of a Christian ska band back in the 90s, and as a youth pastor, I was invited to pray with the band before the concert. One of the band members shared the following verse with me:
“For God is not unjust.
He will not forget how hard you have worked for him
and how you have shown your love to him
by caring for other believers, as you still do.”
I was deeply moved by this verse and by the young performer who ministered grace to me by sharing it. To this day I feel like it has the power of a magic spell. I know I used a bad metaphor but really it is hard to express the power of these words. You could call it a medicine. The truth is profound, deep, reassuring, comforting and moves me to tears even now as I type this.
Although Psalm 98:3 has several different translations of what it is that God remembers, that He remembers is clear in every one of them.
Hebrews 6:10 “He will not forget”; Psalm 98:3 “He has remembered”!
Yes the subject is a bit different in the two verses, He is not forgetting what you have done in Hebrews 6 and He is remembering His promises in Psalms 98. But this is two sides of the same coin.
“And it is impossible to please God without faith.
Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”
Psalm 98 shows us a people who are as giddy as kids in a candy shop. They got the memo and they are believers. Imagine you bought stock in Apple back when they were just starting. And now you are laughing all the way to the bank. The descriptions of what God has done to save, rescue, give victory, set wrongs right, be fair and give justice are abounding in the text. And the happy, deeply moved, dancing, shouting, rejoicing people who believe it call on everyone and everything to join in on the celebration. Why is it so exciting? Why is there so much pomp, fanfare, parades, and celebrations? Because God's people know the secret.
“He has remembered”
“He will not forget”
Hebrews 6:10
Conclusion:
So a tired, hard-working, people-loving, a bit battered youth pastor in the 90’s heard that God will not forget. He knows how much you love Him and how much you love His people. He knows you’d give everything. And all these years later He still knows. He will remember. In fact He has remembered, and it is a cause for celebration.
